Curaçao's Ultimate Meeting Destination
Best Team Building Activities: Mild & Wild
Santa Barbara Beach Resort’s fun team-building exercises that fuel a little friendly competition, while also firing up the friendships
Fire up the Grill Competition
It’s not just a barbeque dinner, but a unique teambuilding event. Teams (divided by tables) create a protein dish and a starch dish using only ingredients from the “mystery box.” Like Iron Chef, teams must prepare their dishes within a certain time frame and also decorate their table on which their dish will be presented to the resort F&B department judging the event.
Each team is presented with a table of ingredients from which they develop their own unique smoothie recipe. The catch? They are selecting their ingredients while blindfolded, so whatever ingredient is chosen must be used (however, after all the items are picked, the team can substitute one item they don’t want for a mystery ingredient). Then, one half of the team will make their smoothie using a bike blender, while the other half creates the perfect pitch to sell the smoothie.
Chichi Doll Painting
Chichis are iconic handmade and hand-painted dolls that represents a colorful part of Caribbean heritage. In this event, attendees team up with craftsmen to paint small-, medium-, or large-sized chichi dolls or can decorate a larger sculpture as a team. All this takes place in beautiful tropical garden at Serena’s Art Factory in Willemstad, Curaçao’s picturesque capitol city.
Expedition in Hidden Paradise
This educational and fun challenge brings you to downtown Punda/Otrobanda in Willemstad, where groups are divided into different teams and tasked with finding their way through the downtown area by following descriptive signs and clues. At different locations – from museums to important historical landmarks – teams perform various assignments to find answers. Once your team finds all the correct answers, you’re led to a mystery location where a boat is waiting to bring your team to a secret paradise: Fuik Bay, where a barbeque, a DJ, and dance party awaits.
Battle of the Flags & Caribbean Beach Life Party
Teams compete in a battle of the flags by winning each other’s team flags in a total of seven games. While this is going on, the DJ is getting the party vibe going, while the hotel is lighting the barbeque. After the games are over, a catamaran shows up to take turns chauffeuring groups of about 45 on a scenic tour of the surrounding coast and inland lagoon, while the rest of the group is entertained with live music, karaoke, Latin/Caribbean dance workshops, and an arts and crafts market.
Themed Dinners: Cuisine with Concepts
The best banquet menus and creative menu items that are deliciously destination-focused.
Everyone dons their guyaberas (their best beige and white outfits) during this beach dinner including Cuban cigars, strung lights, a white lounge area, fire dancers, and live five-piece band. Food comes in the form of casual interactive stations with tapas, a shots station with mini snacks, barbeque, and a bonfire with s’mores.
This family-style dinner of classic Caribbean eats comes surrounded with belly dancers, acrobats, fireworks, water pipes, and stilt walkers amid lounge pillows and drapery.
Under the Sea
The menu includes a raw bar, seafood bar, and martini bar; the décor includes vibrant loud colors, mermaids, ice sculptures, and laser lighting and effects; and the evening entertainment comes in the form of water ballet.
This personalized eight-course dinner is inspired by molecular gastronomy and includes wine pairings and a jazz band.
Shorts and flip flops are the preferred attire to this casual dinner, where Adirondack chairs, lanterns, and checkered gingham prints are part of the décor and s’mores are on the menu.
Off-Site Meeting Venues: Landmarks to Live It Up
Meetings become lifetime experiences when hosted in one of Curaçao’s most unique meeting venues.
Located in a Colonial two-storied mansion built in 1729, this museum dedicated to Curaçao’s seafaring history makes for a beautiful maritime-themed event. Private dinners in the main hall can be catered by the on-site restaurant and feature staff wearing captain hats.
Brakkeput Mei Mei
This historical planation house includes a restaurant on the front terrace, where your group can listen to live music while enjoying fish and meat specialties from the grill accompanied by delicious salads from the popular salad bar. After dinner, play a round of 18-hole miniature golf that meanders through a beautiful tropic garden behind the country house.
The Fort Nassau restaurant is based in the eighteenth-century fort situated high upon a hill at the Schottegat Harbor entrance, with beautiful 360-degree views over part of the island and the city of Willemstad. At night a sea of lights stretches to the horizon offering the most spectacular view while you enjoy casual fine dining.
Because of the climate, Curaçao is actually a great place for ostriches to live. Groups enjoy activities like the safari tour to see the 200 adult ostriches, then dine in the thatched-roof on-site restaurant, Zambezi, serving African-inspired fare.
Have an interactive cocktail workshop at this early 1800s mansion where the famous blue Curaçao Liqueur is made, followed by dinner in any one of the five unique event spaces: the courtyard, the historic hófi, private patio, gardens, or the outdoor Chobolobo Square.
Meeting Technology & Amenities: Simple to Smart
Offerings – from high-tech highlights to just plain ingenious add-ons – that make holding a meeting at Santa Barbara Beach Resort unlike anything else.
This is a great intimate meeting space for 14 guests that comes with all the same amenities you’d expect of a larger venue: built-in screen and projector, surround-sound speakers, and a long wooden table.
The resort’s bonfire pit literally sits at the end of the sea, overlooking Spanish Water Bay. While a weekly bonfire is open to all resort guests, the resort can plan a private bonfire event just for your group – stars and s’mores guaranteed.
These on-property trails travel the south side of the grounds, offering greenery and beautiful views of the Spanish Water Bay, as well as the north side, home to a rougher desert-like environment. The resort provides guests with complimentary use of high-end Specialized and Cannondale mountain bikes.
Accommodating up to 800 people, two separate ballrooms offer over 12,000 square feet of space, built-in surround-sound system, and versatile breakout space (it can be split into eight different sections).
Customized Activities for Spouses
While groups meet, spouses can be treated to a customized activity schedule created by the resort that can includes yoga, Pilates, tennis clinics, poolside/beachside massages, and more.
Event Themes: Prepare to be Inspired
A few of the corporate party ideas that your team will be talking about well into the next quarter.
Food Truck/Drive-In Night
It’s no secret that people from the Caribbean appreciate delectable, authentic food, and the island is fortunate to have some of the most amazing food trucks, sneks (food stands), and batidos wagons (smoothie wagons) serving such fare. In this event, the resort sets up a movie screen on the beach and surrounds it with your choice of local food trucks and services.
Tee off Tafelberg
Tafelberg is a 700-foot mountain that overlooks the Pete Dye–designed Old Quarry Golf Course at Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort. But not many people know of the secret tee box located near its summit, where you can hit your ball onto the green of the 13th hole among expansive views of Spanish Water Bay. In this event, the resort caters a fabulous soiree at the top of the mountain, while your team takes turns taking their best shots.
Progressive Dinner Event
This event allows guests to experience the property through their taste buds with a different course at different locations around the resort. For example, at the spa, guests enjoy a signature welcome drink along with hand massages; at the pool, expect creative light bites. The evening culminates with an elegantly chic beachfront dinner at the water’s edge with a cooking demonstration by the executive chef, followed by cordials and dessert in the Presidential Suite.
Fall In Love with Curaçao
What’s the best way to kick off an event? Have your CEO or keynote speaker skydive into the welcome reception, based on the fairway of hole 1 on the Old Quarry Golf Course overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Once guests are settled on the fairway, the group’s leader lands on the fairway before making his/her introductory remarks.
Interactive Mystery Dinner Scavenger Hunt
Experience the best of the resort and the destination with this interactive tour in which guests must find the three key “ingredients” for their dinner party: 1) the food (a mix of spices or local food from the Curaçao floating market), 2) the entertainment (for example, Carnival dancers or steel drummers that the group must find and pick up on the way to the event), 3) the location (everyone hops on a catamaran from Pirates Nest in Jan Thiel to the resort beach, where chefs use their secret ingredients for a surprise dinner party on the beach). The finale: Guests receive a jar with the spice mix they created as a memento.
